5# Visiting Buenos Aires | Feria de Mataderos

feria de matadores

In front of the Market building

If you are up for something different and not afraid to go to the outskirts of the city, try the Fería de Mataderos. This is a very nice market with all kinds of handicraft, homemade goods, leather ware and more from the countryside. There is a band playing, traditional dancing, you can eat (parilla of course) everywhere around the market square and there are (real) gaucho’s walking around (some on horseback). Every gaucho wheres clothes related to the region they (originally) come from. To learn more about the traditional gaucho lifestyle you can visit the Gaucho museum.

During weekdays there is a cattle market in the beautiful market building and on sundays the Feria de Matadores is held in the streets in front of it. The price for meat in the supermarkets of Buenos Aires is determined on this cattle market.
