This chique and fashionable area is one of the most expensive of Buenos Aires. “La Recoleta” was founded in the 18th century as a place for pray and retreat for Franciscan monks. Around 1871 the rich settled here, fleeing the outbreak of yellow fever in the southern parts of the city. This upscale neighbourhood has [...]

If you are up for something different and not afraid to go to the outskirts of the city, try the FerÃa de Mataderos. This is a very nice market with all kinds of handicraft, homemade goods, leather ware and more from the countryside. There is a band playing, traditional dancing, you can eat (parilla of course) everywhere around the market square and there are (real) gaucho’s walking around (some on horseback). Every gaucho wheres clothes related to the region they (originally) come from. To learn more about the traditional gaucho lifestyle you can visit the Gaucho museum.
If you have ever walked on Schiphol Airport on one of those speed walkways, you probably remember the female voice at the end saying “Mind your step” (very annoying after a while…). Well the streets here in BA could sometimes use a female voice saying “Mind your step” too. At some points the sideways are so bad that you can hardly walk there at all.

Buenos Aires is the Paris of Latin America, not just because it shares architectural similarities with Paris but also because it is very beautiful and the most western/european city of Latin America. Europeans tend to feel right at home. This European identity is highly valued by the porteños, the people of Buenos Aires, as most [...]
Unlike many cities in the world the centre of Buenos Aires is not the place to stay. It is more a business centre than a traditional centre, during weekdays it is crowded with traffic and during weekends there is nothing much to do. Do visit the centre though. It offers a lot of beautiful architecture, monuments, shoppingstreet Calle Florida and of course the famous Plaza de Mayo.
Nice areas to stay are Palermo, Recoleta, Puerto Madero or San Telmo.
